I have always been a lover of animals, since the first budgie I owned at the age of about 6! The first dog came into my life when I was 8. Ben, a Cavalier King Charles. It wasn't long before I started bathing and grooming him! And after he went to a grooming parlour, I then became interested in the "real" art of grooming and out came the scissors!!! (Kitchen scissors at that time!! Poor thing, he tolerated so much!!)
And then, after following my love of horses for a few years I finally had my own dog. She was a terrier cross, who taught me so much about handling dogs. She had come from a rescue centre and had an unknown background and a very fiesty temperament!!! After much hard work and plenty of plasters, she finally became my friend for life. This is when my true interest in dog care came to the fore. Not long after, I started work at an International Quarantine and Boarding Kennel, and here I learnt all I needed to know about caring for dogs and cats. With the Sussex Police dogs in boardings, German Shepherds being bred and the many varied breeds entering the Quarantine kennel, I gained a vast amount of experience in the handling, caring and most importantly, the grooming of hundreds of dogs under the watchful eye of highly experienced dog groomers and handlers.
I set up Four Paws Pet Grooming after I had my children. I wanted to return to working with animals, and my first love of grooming won the day!! I am set up within my home, so I offer a home-from-home environment to my four legged customers. This creates a feeling of well-being and familiarity for the animals. I only work on your pets at any one time, therefore, no pets are left either drying or waiting in cages. I find this works extremely well for my more nervous customers as it reduces the time they are away from mum and dad, thus reducing their stress levels. Having also studied Dog Behaviour and Psychology, a pet's well-being is of the utmost importance to me.
